The issues that give rise to disputes are often emotional and complex. There are ways to resolve these issues that do not require involvement of the judicial system. However, sometimes these methods prove inadequate, and a dispute becomes a legal matter.
Each situation is unique, and must be individually analyzed to determine the best course of action. However, resources exist to provide you with guidance, as follows:
If you have a complaint about a product or service, you may want to visit VDA's Publications page to get a copy of the "Customer Complaint Checklist & Sample Letter". It contains helpful information on how to make a complaint.
For consumer complaints, contact the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs by visiting their web site or calling their consumer protection hotline at 1-800-552-9963.
If you have a complaint regarding care that you or someone you know has received from a long-term care provider, such as a nursing home, an assisted living facility, or through community-based services to individuals living at home (such as home care), contact the State Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsma.
The Virginia State Bar has a Lawyer Referral Service. You can contact them by visiting their web site, or calling toll-free 1-800-552-7977. If you live in the Richmond area, you can call (804) 775-0502.
