Social Security
You should not depend on Social Security payments as your only source of income during retirement. Instead, the payments should supplement your savings, pension and income. Social Security also includes three types of benefits, as follows:
- Retirement benefits - retirement insurance provides monthly benefit
payments to retired employees and certain family members of the
employee.
- Survivor benefits - when a person who has paid into Social Security
dies, survivor benefits are paid to members of their family.
- Disability Insurance - provides monthly benefits for workers and
some families when injury or illness keeps the worker away from
his or her employment for a certain period of time.
