The Virginia Four-Year Plan For Aging Services
Four-Year Plan For Aging Services - Report Document 461, 2009 (.pdf) 792 KB
This is Virginia's initial Four Year Plan for Aging Services required under Section 2.2-703.1 of the Code of Virginia. The number of older adults in Virginia will reach 1.8 million by 2030 – more than double that population in 2000. In just two decades, almost one in every five Virginians will be age 65 or older, with the over 85 age group being the fastest growing segment of the population. Recognizing the coming “Age Wave,” the 2008 Virginia General Assembly mandated a four-year planning process for aging services. This Plan presents a comprehensive picture of where we are now and where we need to go to effectively meet the needs and leverage the human resources of Virginia’s rapidly aging population. The primary goal of this first planning effort is to establish a structure and process that will serve as a solid foundation from which future efforts to assess Virginia’s network of aging services can evolve.
State Agencies' Reports on Addressing the Impact of Aging
2009: The Virginia General Assembly directed all state agencies to analyze the impact that the aging of the population will have on their ability to deliver services and to report to VDA on how they are responding to these changes (§2.2-5510). VDA submitted a report summarizing the progress made by the agencies to the Governor and the General Assembly on June 30, 2009. This report represents the second annual summary report prepared by VDA and is based on 81 individual agency reports. This annual analysis and reporting has been incorporated into the mandated strategic planning process for all agencies in recognition of the aging of Virginia’s population. Review VDA's Report Document No. 162.
2008: House Bill 2624 (2007 General Assembly) required state agencies to submit reports on their progress in addressing the impact of the aging population to the Virginia Department for the Aging (VDA) by November 15 of each year. VDA prepares a summary of these reports and submits it to the Governor and the General Assembly by June 30th. VDA's 2008 Report Document No. 191 and the 2008 agency reports are available on our HB2624 page.
